Labor Day weekend

The beach. Oceanfront Park, 6415 N. Ocean Blvd., charges $3.50 an hour for parking. Labor Day falls in sea turtle nesting season, which runs to Oct. 31: fill in holes, knock down sandcastles and keep lights off near the beach at night (park page).

First Friday @ 5. The city’s free evening of food trucks and live music downtown at Centennial Park and Amphitheater, 120 E. Ocean Ave., is held on the first Friday of each month (city listing). Check the city calendar for the September date.

Remembering the 1935 hurricane

The photo at the top of this page shows memorial markers placed in 2023 at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, west of Boynton Beach, for veterans lost in the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane. The cemetery is open daily from sunrise to sunset, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
