Updated Oct. 18: FDOT has pushed the I-95 at Boynton Beach Boulevard finish date into 2029, and FL511 lists a new closure on eastbound Boynton Beach Boulevard at U.S. 1.

State projects (FDOT)

I-95 at Boynton Beach Boulevard interchange. FDOT’s project page covers I-95 just north and south of Boynton Beach Boulevard, all the ramps, and Boynton Beach Boulevard from Old Boynton Road to Northwest Third Avenue, 2.4 miles in all. Work began Aug. 11, 2025. The contractor is MasTec Civil, and the estimated cost is $64 million.

The finish date has slipped. FDOT’s project page now lists completion in winter 2029, and its June closure notice gave spring 2029. This page said September 2028 until this week.

The work includes:

  • Widening the Boynton Beach Boulevard bridge over I-95 for dual left turns onto northbound and southbound I-95.
  • More turn lanes on the northbound and southbound on- and off-ramps.
  • A third westbound through lane on Boynton Beach Boulevard at the interchange.
  • Repaving, 5- to 7-foot bike lanes in each direction and 8-foot sidewalks.
  • New signal mast arms at Old Boynton Road, West Industrial Avenue and the ramps, plus traffic cameras and wrong-way driver detection.

Lane closure now: the outside deceleration lane on southbound I-95 approaching the Boynton Beach Boulevard exit is closed from near the Boynton Canal to the bottom of the ramp through late 2026, according to FDOT’s closure notice (PDF). One deceleration lane stays open, and the exit ramp keeps its two lanes and three turn lanes onto Boynton Beach Boulevard. FDOT says other lane and ramp closures will continue for bridge and ramp widening, and it posts them weekly on the project page.

Boynton Beach Boulevard at U.S. 1. FL511, the state’s traffic service, lists a closure on eastbound Boynton Beach Boulevard at U.S. 1 for planned construction. It shows all lanes blocked from 9:21 a.m. Friday, with no end time. FL511 does not say what the work is, and the city has posted no notice about it. Check FL511 before driving east toward Federal Highway.

I-95 at Woolbright Road, coming next. FDOT’s future project page still lists a fall 2026 start and a summer 2029 finish, at an estimated $22 million. As of Oct. 18 it names no contractor and posts no closure notices, so work has not visibly begun. Plans call for triple left-turn lanes on the I-95 off-ramps, three receiving lanes on the on-ramps, three through lanes each way on Woolbright Road through the interchange, and wider Woolbright Road bridges over the E-4 Canal, the CSX railroad and I-95. FDOT says lane and ramp closures and detours will be scheduled outside peak hours and access to homes and businesses will stay open. Project manager Humberto Arrieta, 954-777-4152.

Boynton Beach Boulevard landscaping. FDOT plans new median and sidewalk landscaping with irrigation on Boynton Beach Boulevard from east of I-95 to U.S. 1, Federal Highway. The contract was scheduled to be let Oct. 9. FDOT expects work from winter 2026 to winter 2027, at an estimated cost of $900,000. Short single-lane closures may be needed; no detours are expected, according to the project page. FDOT project manager Leslie Wetherell, 954-777-4438.

Boynton Beach Boulevard west repaving. West of the city, FDOT’s resurfacing project from east of Orchid Grove Trail to Palm Isles Drive was scheduled to finish Aug. 28, 2026. Project administrator Joseph Pennacchio, 561-690-9338.

FDOT posts nightly closures for every state road in the county on its Palm Beach County lane closure list.

Who owns which road

The city maintains sidewalks, pavement and street signs on public residential streets that are not private or part of a homeowners association. Larger arterial roads are generally maintained by the state or by Palm Beach County, the city’s streets and sidewalks page says. Report a city street repair through the city’s report and request page. Most streetlights belong to Florida Power & Light; report one through FPL’s streetlight form.

Palm Beach County’s Engineering and Public Works Department posts county road closures on its engineering page. As of Oct. 18, none of its current notices is in Boynton Beach. The nearest is a lane of Roebuck Road near Jog Road and Florida’s Turnpike, closed for emergency repair until further notice. That is west of West Palm Beach, about 13 miles north.
