Parks that allow leashed dogs
City code Section 4-33 allows leashed dogs in four city parks:
- Jaycee Park, 2600 S. Federal Highway, except the restrooms and playground
- Boynton Lakes Park, 300 Boynton Lakes Blvd., except the playground
- Dewey Park, downtown
- Intracoastal Park, 2240 N. Federal Highway, except the restrooms, playground, seawall and boat launch areas
The rules in those parks: posted park hours only; a leash no longer than 8 feet; dogs at least 4 months old with required vaccinations and license; owners clean up after their dogs; and a dog showing aggression must leave at once.
The beach: Oceanfront Bark
On the third Saturday of each month from November through February, 9 a.m. to noon, dogs are invited onto the beach at Oceanfront Park, 6415 N. Ocean Blvd., and parking fees are waived for the event, the city’s dog page says. In the 2026-27 season, that is Nov. 21, Dec. 19, Jan. 16 and Feb. 20.
At all other times, city code Section 16-39 bans dogs and other domestic animals from designated beach and park areas, leashed or not, except where Section 4-33 allows them. Police dogs and service animals are exempt.
The leash law
- Off your property, on a leash or other restraint. A dog, cat or other pet off its owner’s property must be under the control of a person physically able to restrain it, by chain, leash, cage or other humane means (Section 4-32).
- 8-foot maximum on streets. On any street, road or alley, the leash can be no longer than 8 feet (Section 4-31).
- Pick up after your dog. Leaving droppings on city property, including streets, sidewalks, parks and swales, or on someone else’s lawn or driveway, counts as damage under Section 4-33, and the owner must remove it.
- Fines. Violations of the animal chapter are civil infractions with a maximum penalty of $500.
Where dogs cannot go
- Green Cay and Wakodahatchee wetlands: Palm Beach County’s wetlands rules ban pets (county wetlands page).
- City beaches and most parks outside the exceptions above.
Patios and shops
We list restaurant patios as dog-friendly only when the restaurant says so on its own website. None we checked did as of Oct. 8. The city’s dog page also lists pet groomers in the area. Know a dog-friendly patio? Tell us.
What this means for you
- Mark the third Saturdays from November: the beach is open to dogs only then.
- Use Crowder or Jaycee for off-leash play; both split big and small dogs.
- Carry bags: droppings left on a swale or sidewalk can bring a fine.
